#AD – We were invited to play at Junkyard Golf Club by Visit Liverpool
It’s always a bit tricky navigating an unfamiliar city & despite looking on the directory & google maps we had a few detours to find Junkyard Golf Club. As you can see from the photos it’s accessible from the ‘zig-zag’ stairs of Liverpool One shopping centre which when we got up close made total sense!
The girls were really excited about going here as much as we love a bit of museum culture you cannot whack a bit of carrying on at a crazy golf club.
Caddy Shack & Cocktails
We headed straight to the Caddy shack to check in for our round of golf. Abigail was keen to get one of the visors (£3) but as a bonus, we were all given them complimentary along with a round of drinks. Visors on we already looked the part.
Junkyard Golf is an assault on the senses. Neon lights, disco lights & loud pop music put you in the party mood. The golf course is usually for the over 18’s but between select times kids are welcome. Our slot was at 2pm on Sunday afternoon. The cost for the session was £8 per person.
There are three different courses at Junkyard Golf. Bozo, a creepy clown themed fairground course which we selected to play. Pablo, a tropical jungle-themed course & Gary, a neon garage junkyard. The three courses were 9 holes each which mean you have an excuse to come back to experience more!
At the main bar we grabbed a cocktail list. Imogen and Alan weren’t feeling too adventurous with a lager & diet coke, but myself and Abigail were keen to taste the crazy sweet shop inspired mock/cocktails. I went for a ‘Porn in the USA’ (£7.50) which was sweet & strong in equal measures. You are encouraged to take your drinks around the course with little tables at each hole. In peak evening times there is a bar halfway round for more liquid refreshment.
Junkyard Golf Clown Course – BOZO
Drinks in hand we made our way to the start of the course to collect our putters & balls. There were small ones available for the kids & a choice of day-glo golf balls, along with a pencil & card to take score. As we set off there was a mum and a teenage daughter behind that we let go in front. We soon realised that playing with kids can take a while!
Throughout the course there was plenty of props to pose with. As if Abigail needs an excuse!
Some of the holes were trickier than others. This ramp took Imogen around 10 goes to get the ball up, but somehow when we asked her for her total she said she had got the ball in three!!
We spent around an hour at Junkyard Golf but probably could have stayed a bit longer had we had some food which was very reasonably priced! Sometimes it’s hard to find activities that suit all members of our family but think the craze for quirky crazy golf isn’t going to die out soon. Imogen was keen to tot up the scores & declared Alan the winner with herself in second place. There was lots of cheating going on but i’m honestly not that bitter about coming last ha ha!
