As we approach the end of our mammoth month long decorating frenzy, I was so excited to receive the new Shark Duo Clean vacuum for review. This vacuum could not have come at a better time. Since the New year, we have ploughed on every weekend and evening decorating the hallway, lounge, dining room and master bedroom-phew! My house is desperate for a good spring clean to rid the place of decorating dust, and I’ve already roped my Mam in to help with a day of blitzing when I’m off work during the half term holidays. Bet the girls (and my Mam) can’t wait for that special day! I will really need to build myself up to tackle their health hazard war-zone bedrooms. And hopefully, the Shark will be just the ticket to help tackle the dust mountains.
Features of the Shark NV801UKT
The Shark NV801UKT has lots of cool features:
- Quieter than previous models
- Cool LED lights to see under furniture
- Dust capacity of 1.1L which means you have to empty less.
- DuoClean technology where the two brush rolls work together to pick up particles.
- Moves seamlessly from carpet to hard floor with the dual control on the handle.
- Lift away feature which turns the vacuum into a portable cleaner.
- Funky modern colours. Our model is navy (the colour of my new living room) and orange.
Setting up the Shark Vacuum
The Shark vacuum was really easy to set up and came with a variety of nozzles:
- Duoclean floor nozzle
- Duster crevice tool
- Upholstery tool
There is an easy to understand instruction booklet to run through what each nozzle is used for.
Using the Shark
We tested the cleaning powers of the Shark with some sawdust on the landing. Since our little hamsters joined the household at Christmas we have plenty of this stuff on the utility floor and seemed like a good visual representation of general dust! The first thing I noticed was the powerful suction-the vacuum just seemed to go on its own with little effort with the light helping to see where the muck was. Already I was impressed.
Using the lift away feature I next tackled the stair carpet. As anyone who reads the blog knows we live in a townhouse and stairs are the bane of my life! Again the Shark’s powerful suction did a great job and it was pretty easy to use.
Our kitchen floor is a laminate wood effort so I used the switch on the handle going from the landing to the kitchen. The switch was so easy to use and not stiff at all, and the Shark glided in the kitchen picking up all the bits that had been dropped on the floor. I gave the release action of the dust collector a test over the bin and it was so effortless. And I couldn’t believe how much dust has been collected in the few minutes I’d used the Shark.
Overall impressions of the Shark
I really like this Shark vacuum and pleased we have been introduced to this brand. Previously we had been Dyson converts for many years, but this seems much better. I’d been at work all day, So I did a quick ‘whizz over’ but already my carpets look clean and fluffed up. The cord length is good for getting around the rooms. While the lift away is a good compromise from a cordless hoover without the limitations of the charging time. I think one improvement would be a retractable cord as it needs wrapping around quite a few times to keep it looking tidy. But this is a minor complaint.
